0 → 1 AI Coaching Platform
Humanizing generative AI for mental health - VR, AR, and mobile.

Generative AI mental health coaching platform (Mobile, Web, VR/AR). Led 0→1 vision, strategy, design, go-to-market, and early operations through v1 launch and fundraising.
After years in healthcare, I noticed a recurring pattern: mental health apps weren't sticky. Despite rising rates of anxiety and loneliness, engagement rarely exceeded 5%. These apps were generic and transactional, failing to build trust or connection. I began to ask: what if generative AI could humanize the experience and actually bond with the user?
- 01Industry engagement ~5%
- 02Apps lacked empathy & personalization
- 03Rising unmet need for mental health support
My vision for Cairya was to create an ally, not an app. Instead of static chatbot advice, we imagined an AI that remembered you, adapted to your style, and expressed empathy through voice, body language, and facial expressions. The hypothesis: if users could see and feel an AI guide as human-like, engagement would dramatically increase.

We developed a multi-modal platform combining VR/AR, Web, and mobile. Three breakthrough innovations sat at the core: dynamic prompting, a multidimensional memory model, and humanized avatars - creating a deeply personal coaching experience where no two sessions were the same.
- 01Dynamic Prompting - unique prompts for each user & session
- 02Memory Model - prioritized knowledge, style adaptation, continuity
- 03Humanized VR Avatars - voice, body, facial expressions → empathy
- 04Mobile Companion App - portable access and daily touchpoints
As founder I wore multiple hats: vision, design, AI technology, and product lead. With no CTO or AI expert, I dove deep into generative AI myself - prompt engineering, RAG methods, voice APIs, system design. I collaborated with Stevens Institute of Technology and mental health professionals to validate and supplement the solution, and translated learnings into clear specs for developers who delivered the MVP in 12 weeks.
In user tests, 90% of participants engaged semi-daily, nearly 20× industry average. Many users referred to their AI guides by name, a clear sign of emotional connection. Investors validated the concept, and we secured funding and our first enterprise customer.
We faced skepticism from healthcare providers who feared AI 'replacing' mental health professionals. We pivoted - positioning Cairya not as a therapist but as part of the care team, providing continuity and insights between sessions. This reframing opened the door for adoption. Testing across other sectors then revealed how universal the platform could be, leading to a broader pivot: empowering organizations across industries to deploy personalized, humanized AI coaches.
